Ferrous sulfate, the other name isgreen vitriol”, is a common divalent iron salt with the chemical formula FeSO₄. It is a versatile basic chemical with wide applications in agriculture, industry, medicine, and food. According to its purity and application, it can be classified into industrial grade, agricultural grade, Grado de alimentación, food grade, and pharmaceutical grade, with significantly different requirements for impurity content among different grades.

Differences and Safety of Various Grades

Absolutely forbid the mixing of different grades of ferrous sulfate!

CalificaciónPurity and Impurity RequirementsPrimary UseSafety
Industrial GradeLower purity, contains heavy metals such as lead, arsénico, and other chemical impurities.Tratamiento del agua, pigments, chemical manufacturing.Toxic. Strictly forbidden for human consumption or animal feed!
Agricultural GradeCertain limits on impurities like heavy metals.Iron fertilizer, soil amendment. Not for use in food or feed.
Grado de alimentaciónStrict control over the content of harmful substances like heavy metals and arsenic.Nutritional additive for animal feed.Safe for animals.
Food/Pharmaceutical GradeHighest purity, with harmful impurity content strictly controlled within very low safety limits.Food fortification, pharmaceutical manufacturing.Safe for humans when used in regulated dosages.
